REMOTEWORDS (Achim Mohné & Uta Kopp) is a long-term art project that installs messages on roofs and, by means of virtual programs like Google Earth, gives them worldwide coverage. The messages are mounted in durable form as giant, bright letters. The site and the message are conceptually a semantic unit.

Hacking the City, Museum Folkwang, Essen/Germany
165 square meters

The “Unperfect House” in Essen-within the exhibition “Hacking the City”-has been inscribed on its roof with “!=CRTL.” The contraction “CRTL”, found on the control key of a computer keyboard, is preceded by an exclamation point and an equals sign. In several open-source operating systems like Linux, “!” methods are defined as “changing” instead of only restoring something, and so serve as a logical negation operator. The combination of an exclamation point with an equals sign “!=” (not equal) corresponds to an unequal equation operator. The “Unperfect House” is, as it were, furnished with a “non-control key”. The “Unperfect House” is an open “creativity village” with 50 studios, workplaces, a roof terrace and stages where artists, founders and groups are provided with rooms, technology and stages gratis. A place where ‘control’ is spelled in small letters, an open source in the city’s social space.
